Founders, were you able to find a job since covid began?

It's more difficult finding a job as a founder I've realised

  1. If your venture is still continuing, they don't trust that you'll work enough at the job.

  2. If your venture is shut, extra questions and judgement as to how and why it happened.

  3. If your venture is successful and profitable, they'll ask why you want a job if it's going so well.

I've never received any preference because of being a founder. On the contrary it's made getting good jobs more difficult.

Thankfully I've managed my earnings through my startup, but I feel stuck because I'm not earning as much as I want to, plus I can't work on new things anymore. I would have liked to work on other things but it doesn't seem like I'll be able to get a chance to do that anymore.

Please tell me this ain’t true 🙏. I’m on notice right now to work on my startup full time and might have to go back to job market in a year if things don’t work out

Watch out man, could be risky for you. I just have a bachelor's from a shit college, it's been especially more difficult for me.

How many YOE do you have though working full time at a company (except your startup, college)? Want to analyse more on this

But isn’t it counterintuitive to look for jobs while still working on your startup. Why will a company want a founder to join whose startup is still active

SillyJellybean
SillyJellybean

Even if you say you'll step away from startup there's not enough trust.

I've been looking for a change because I want to work on something new and interesting, especially something in AI. Startup is running on its own with existing team, my involvement is minimal as is.

We regularly hire former founders and don't care at all about their company's failure/success or background

That's good to know, can you share the name?

i felt this problem But there were so many people here who disagreed. There was a big discussion, where many people said founders do not face such issues, in fact, there are many people who prefer to employ such failed founders. Good to know there are a few in the same boat..

Feels like those who shut their ventures have a better chance of getting hired vs ventures that are still continuing.
