FM Sitharaman Urges Stress Management After EY Employee’s Death

Let’s take a broader look at her comment. She is suggesting a (might be) long term solution by proposing that college or universities introduce new subjects or guidelines on stress management and mental wellness. But will that really help? Students are already frustrated with unnecessary subjects. Will they even understand or apply this in their lives? It feels like that putting blame on those who are already struggling. How is her statement any different from Mulayam’s controversial comment that misbehave occurs because of girls clothing choice? Instead of this, why not push for a law limiting work hours to 40-50 per week? Why not establish a 24/7 labor grievance office to hold employer accountable? Are we, the middle-class taxpayers, just pawns in their political game?

We do need to ask ourselves what salary are we comfortable working for ?

It is a simple argument that if you get paid a huge amount, you are expected to deliver that value. It is also important to recognize if you are willing take that toll on your body to earn your package. Managing mental well being is absolutely essential in this regard.
The thought is good, but I doubt the execution will translate into the outcome due to the way governments work.

The suggestion about a labor grievance office is valid, but I think that already exists in the form of state labor department.
Limiting work hours to 40-50 per week is not the solution, in my opinion. It is upto you to push back against the expectation of enhanced working hours. If that pushback is ignored, look for other opportunities where you might be more comfortable. Tying back to the first part, you need to decide if earning X lpa id worth the toll on you (physical, mental, emotional social, familial, financial). This level of maturity is expected from adults. Sadly, not many of this know how to do this. That's why a practical education is necessary in this regard.
