First flight, how to do it.
I've got my first flight (domestic) coming this week and I'm absolutely clueless about it. Gonna fly from the CSMT Airport. What are the steps (like security check-in and luggage, etc)? and what should I keep in mind?
Please help.
- Make sure you check the baggage weight limits and allowed number and size of bags, on airlines website and pack accordingly
- Make sure you don't have any prohibited items in your bags. Check the list of prohibited items on airline website
- Apart from checked in baggage, that you hand over to airline to go in cargo hold of plane, you can carry one cabin size bag and one laptop bag with you into the cabin
- 24 hours before the flight, do e-Check in from home online
- Reach airport 2-3 hours before flight departure time
- On reaching, print your boarding pass from airline kiosk outside, or you can get it from airline baggage checkin counter inside
- Enter airport with your checked in baggage & cabin baggage items. Get a cart outside the airport, so you can easily pull them together on one cart
- Enter airport by showing your ID and ticket to policeman at gate. eTicket on phone is okay but you need any physical photo ID card
- After entering, go to your airlines checkin counter, and checkin your baggage there to hand that over to airline. Also get your boarding pass there, if not already printed outside at kiosk
- Now you just have your cabin baggage and laptop bag.
- With them go towards security check area leading towards the flight gates
- In security, put your cabin & laptop bag on rolling line for X ray. You will also have to put all electronics and metal in your pockets, including wallet, phone, keys, belt into small tray and put it through X ray
- While your bags are going through X ray, you step through physical security metal detector check point where police man will frisk you and then let you go forward
- After that collect your cabin and laptop bags and trays with wallet, phone, keys, belt, etc. from out end of X ray rolling line
- Wear everything again, now start walking towards the flight gates
- If you arrived 2-3 hours before flight time, at this point you might have some free time to wait before boarding time
- You can relax and eat, drink from eateries or restaurants near the flight gates during this time
- Go to wall display screen and check the flight schedules, about which gate number your flight leaves from and is it on time or delayed
- Go to appropriate gate number for your flight, and sit & wait there. Boarding typically starts 1 hour before flight departure time
- After boarding, go to your seat on plane, put cabin baggage in overhead compartment, and laptop bag under seat in front of you
- Put your phones in airplane mode or turn them off
- After takeoff, relax through the flight, and enjoy whatever food and drinks cabin crew staff bring to you.
- Once plane descends and lands, collect your cabin baggage and laptop bag and exit plane
- Check which baggage carousel your checked in baggage will come to and go there
- Get a baggage cart, and wait at the baggage carousel as bags are thrown up one by one. Keep an eye out for your own bags, and don't take someone else's similar looking bag by accident 😄
- After collecting checked in baggage, put it and cabin baggage on cart
- Walk with cart towards exit gates
- Step out into your destination city. Congratulations, you have arrived
- Book prepaid taxi or Uber and walk to corresponding pickup point with your cart
- Once your taxi arrives, transfer your bags from cart to taxi, and return the cart to nearby submit location
- Off you go towards your destination in the taxi. Your plane journey is over! 😊
Don't be shy to ask people around you, or airlines or airport staff if you are confused at any location or point in your journey. But don't become too friendly with strangers either, and always be alert and aware of your bags and belongings at all times.
Hope this helps you mentally prepare yourself about the process. Good luck for your journey! 😊
Created an expanded version of the previous list above. Hope this is more useful 😊:
-
Make sure you check the baggage weight and the allowed number and size of bags on the airline’s website and pack accordingly
-
Make sure you don't have any prohibited items in your bags. Check the list of prohibited items on the airline’s website
-
Apart from checked-in baggage that you hand over to the airline to go in the cargo hold of the plane, you can carry one cabin-size bag and one laptop bag with you into the cabin
-
Keep medicines, valuables, documents, chargers, power banks, and one change of clothes in your cabin baggage. Checked-in baggage can sometimes be delayed or lost
-
Power banks and spare lithium batteries are usually allowed only in cabin baggage and not in checked-in baggage
-
Liquids in cabin baggage are usually restricted to small containers (often around 100 ml each, depending on country rules). Larger liquid items should go in checked-in baggage
-
24 hours before the flight, do e-check-in from home online
-
During online check-in, choose your seat if the airline allows it. Window seats are nice for first-time flyers, while aisle seats are easier if you want to get up frequently
-
Reach the airport 2–3 hours before flight departure time
-
On reaching, print your boarding pass from the airline kiosk outside, or you can get it from the airline baggage check-in counter inside
-
Enter the airport with your checked-in baggage and cabin baggage items. Get a cart outside the airport so you can easily pull them together on one cart
-
Enter the airport by showing your ID and ticket to the police officer at the gate. An e-ticket on your phone is okay, but you need a physical photo ID card
-
After entering, go to your airline’s check-in counter and check in your baggage there to hand it over to the airline. Also get your boarding pass there if it is not already printed outside at the kiosk
-
Now you just have your cabin baggage and laptop bag
-
With them, go towards the security check area leading towards the flight gates
-
In security, put your cabin and laptop bag on the rolling line for X-ray. You will also have to put all electronics and metal items in your pockets, including wallet, phone, keys, and belt, into a small tray and put it through X-ray
-
While your bags are going through X-ray, you step through the physical security metal detector checkpoint where the police officer will frisk you and then let you go forward
-
After that, collect your cabin and laptop bags and trays with wallet, phone, keys, belt, etc. from the other end of the X-ray rolling line
-
Wear everything again and now start walking towards the flight gates
-
If you arrived 2–3 hours before flight time, at this point you might have some free time to wait before boarding time
-
You can relax and eat or drink from eateries or restaurants near the flight gates during this time
-
Go to the wall display screen and check the flight schedules to confirm which gate number your flight leaves from and whether it is on time or delayed. Keep checking occasionally because gate numbers can sometimes change
-
Go to the appropriate gate number for your flight and sit and wait there. Boarding typically starts about 1 hour before flight departure time and is usually done in groups or row numbers, so listen carefully for announcements
-
When boarding is announced, join your boarding group and enter the aircraft when your turn comes
-
After boarding, go to your seat on the plane, put your cabin baggage in the overhead compartment, and place your laptop bag under the seat in front of you
-
Fasten your seatbelt when seated and follow the safety instructions given by the cabin crew
-
Put your phone in airplane mode or turn it off
-
During takeoff and landing, you may feel pressure in your ears. Swallowing, yawning, or chewing gum usually helps reduce this feeling
-
Mild turbulence during the flight is normal and safe. If the seatbelt sign is on, remain seated with your seatbelt fastened
-
After takeoff, relax through the flight and enjoy whatever food and drinks the cabin crew staff bring to you
-
Use the restroom before boarding if possible, as airplane restrooms are smaller and sometimes busy during flights
-
Flights can be dehydrating, so drinking water during the flight is a good idea. Carrying a light jacket is also useful because cabins can sometimes feel cold
-
Once the plane descends and lands, collect your cabin baggage and laptop bag and exit the plane
-
Check which baggage carousel your checked-in baggage will come to and go there
-
Get a baggage cart and wait at the baggage carousel as bags are delivered one by one. Keep an eye out for your own bags and don't take someone else's similar-looking bag by accident 😄
-
It is helpful to put a name tag, ribbon, or sticker on your bags so they are easier to identify
-
After collecting checked-in baggage, put it and your cabin baggage on the cart
-
Walk with the cart towards the exit gates
-
Step out into your destination city. Congratulations, you have arrived
-
Book a prepaid taxi or Uber and walk to the corresponding pickup point with your cart
-
Once your taxi arrives, transfer your bags from the cart to the taxi and return the cart to a nearby return location
-
Off you go towards your destination in the taxi. Your plane journey is over! 😊

thank you! :)

My first flight I just kept asking people what to do, where the luggage will arrive etc. Just blend in, look at others and blend in. 🤷🏻♂️. You'll also get to see how rich people take minor stuff as 'problems'
Yayayaya congratulationssss🥳🥳🥳🥳
