First credit card suggestion for parents?
Parents have never been ones to use credit. Recently i spoke to them about some of the benefits these come with like cashbacks, discounts, redeemable points etc. so they seemed interested.
so I've been tasked with suggesting a tried and tested card that just works. Something that's easy and beginner friendly as a starter card.
Their main usage would be:
- utility bills (electricity, water, gas etc)
- phone recharge
- fuel
- grocery shopping (not always online, mostly offline, in-store, pos transactions)
Rare:
- misc shopping occassionally on Amazon or third party vendor sites
Cards that I've suggested:
- sbi cashback
- new hdfc phonepe card (however most of their bills are done using gpay)
- amazonpay (again, since most of their bills are done using gpay, this would require a new learning curve)
Just want to know if there's any other suggestions. The hdfc phonepay rupay variant card looks attractive, but I don't know how good it is. The sbi cashback is tried and tested, but just want to get more opinions.
They have an sbi simplyclick card they've never used. So, wouldn't mind knowing if that's a good one as well.

Sbi cashback won't really help unless you intervene and do payments on their behalf (I don't know how tech savvy your parents are)
Axis ace is easy 500rs per month if bills and recharges cross 10k per month, works flawlessly with gpay so they don't have to learn anything. Also has 1.5% flat on offline swipes so it's nice too.
Do they live in tier 1 city? If yes, HSBC Live+, it is 10% upto 1000 per month for grocery and dining. Again nothing to learn because they know how to use a card in pos machine, really nice card to have if you can get it.
Apay icici is ltf so it's a no brainer, take it if you are getting it.
Simplyclick is useless, convert to BPCL Octane if your fuel purchases cross 5k per month and you have a BPCL fuel station nearby where you live. It works for amazon/flipkart sales discount as well, and you get ~6% off on a mandatory purchase like fuel, you can let it keep accumulating points and then redeem once to statement credit whenever you are free. Again nothing to learn here, since they know how to use cards on POS.
Why wouldn't the sbi cashback help? Is it because they'd need to apply vouchers or something during checkout?
The others don't sound very specific to their use case however,
Axis ace sounds good, is it actually worth it?
