Feeling very sad: Why does Google hire such people?
After preparing for months, I gave my first-round interview at Google. The interviewer showed up and quickly jumped into the problem statement. He gave a hard problem I had never seen on LeetCode and expected a time complexity of O(1) as a follow-up. I offered multiple solutions, but he wasn’t interested in any of them. The final heap solution I gave could have been amortized O(1), but he didn’t budge and said it wasn’t O(1).
Throughout the interview, he kept shouting O(1). When I asked for hints, he spoke random things unrelated to the problem. When I asked if we could dry-run my solution, he said he didn’t understand it, so he wasn’t sure if it worked.
At the end, when I asked for feedback, he said I jumped directly to the solution without first breaking the problem into subproblems. But I literally started by breaking down the problem statement to understand it. What the heck is this? I have one more round already scheduled. Should I attend it?
The role I interviewed for was Applications Engineer, and even the interviewer was an AE

- Yes, such pieces of shit exist among us.
- Grapevine is not the platform for this. Do it on LinkedIn. Tag that arrogant ass and HR (if you have proof, else they'll downplay and might make point fingers at you and maybe even blacklist you from future hiring at Google, unless you drag them to court for misorderly conduct against the company policies)
Things can go spiralling down the rabbit hole. Its your call. Its a waste on you to post these things here 🥲
