Feeling sus. Is this a bait ?

So, we are just a few months away from performance reviews and stuff. I'm expecting a promotion since it's been a great year for me at work. But, management just called me in and said they want to up my CTC to match market standards for my role.

A good raise is fine, but I'm feeling like they are indirectly saying "we don't want to promote you in the upcoming cycle, so here's some extra snacks".

Are my instincts right ? If yes, what's the best course of action ?

Last time when a market revision was done, I was not promoted but on the other hand, my colleague was.

Guess you’ll have to bite the bullet to see if it’s a dud

If you're willing to risk the off chance that the relationship will go sour if you aren't given the promotion, ask them now itself. Words, else mail. Thanking them for the raise, and also asking for confirmation if you'll get a deserved promotion. Their response will give you all you need to know, and you can start taking steps to leave if you're pissed off.

I mean, I'm pretty pissed off already. The only thing stopping me from leaving my job is I'm the sole bread winner in my family and can't take a leap of faith without a financial cushion
