Feeling confused and anxious about job and CTC

I have a 2 YOE and my yearly TC is 49LPA. I work with some cutting edge generative AI stuff here. I really love what I do, and I recently got promoted to senior swe.

For about a year now, people have been asking me to switch jobs, how I could be making much more than what I’m.

I’m from a Tier-1 IIT CSE and so a lot of my friends are working in companies that are “considered” better than Oracle.

I know my pay is at par with market and I love my job, but I feel confused sometimes because of the peer pressure to switch.

I start LeetCode again and again, do it consistently for a few weeks and then go back to working normally maybe because something interesting comes up at work, and there’s not a particular willingness to switch in me.

Maybe I need to lock in and get it done, but I don’t want to do it just because everyone else is telling me.

Hoping the comments would tell me how to better deal with this situation.

The only way work can be fun is if you love what you do. What I'm hearing from your note is that you enjoy it and things keep coming up that keep it challenging. The right balance!

If you want to switch companies for the same job profile that you love do it for you not because someone nags you about it.

You do you! Take opinions but do what you truly want at the end of the day.

Let me get this straight . You say your pay is at par with market so your ctc isn’t an issue . You also say you like your work. So I guess I need to congratulate you instead of giving out advice lol

The company is kinda issue in terms of how people perceive it on an overall. While Oracle has been making a great come back in the last 1/2 years it’s not FAANG or any reputed startup. I hear on a daily basis from friends telling me how I should work somewhere better. Hope that answers your question

Haha! I'm not alone then.

Tell you what, it's just a fad, switching companies nowadays. If you don't do it, gives you a sense of missing out since all your friends are doing it.

It's just the curse of our generation dude. We aren't satisfied with anything because it haunts us. This reminds me of that popular meme - I don't want peace, I want problems, always!
We seek out hardships and then cry about mental health.

When to leave a company -

  • when the work/people/circumstances gets overwhelming at the expense of your health
  • when the work/people/circumstances gets underwhelming at the expense of your personal growth
