Totally understand that perspective

Student mindset v/s working professional mindset is so different

It has to do it with the goal you are looking forward to and clear strategy.
For Working professionals it's not always guaranteed that extended work hours will get you to the top. You might not grow due to reasons out of your control such as budget, work politics etc. Even Working professionals go above and beyond if they have something passionate about. It could be a major project or even if they want to prepare for job switch etc.

Also it has to do with once in a while major goal vs grind everyday without any major goal. As you move forward in life other areas also need attention such as health, relationships, children, mental sanity etc.

The reward for a student is measurable and the reward for an employee is nothing. This is the same reason founders work tirelessly against odds, because their rewards are measurable. Not a equal comparison.

College study is for a few years, job is life long until you retire.

Do what suits you man, it is very much possible when you’re young. I use to work 10-12hrs a day when needed when I was young and quite frankly it did give an edge over others. It did burn me out too, but an experience worth having. You can always choose not to at the end.
