Razorpay 👏👏👏

Razorpay did something very creative. Instead of celebrities who hog mainstream media limelight and Viral Bhayani's Instagram, they instead are showcasing 35 visionary founders who hog LinkedIn already and are worth multi-million dollars if not billion dollars.

Well done Razorpay marketing team!

Marketing is the stupidest, most ridiculous function at Razorpay. They exist to be the founder mouth piece, which is right now focussed on building a brand big enough to attract retail investors. Any self respecting tech company would like to build a brand on the back of their product. Razorpay is an obvious exception to the rule because just look at their marketing. Who wants to build the brand of a tech company on the back of other successful founders? Only Harshil and SHK.

As an ex-Razorpay Marketing employee, I can attest to the fact that the culture in the Marketing team is SHIT, in all caps. Both the leaders, Apuarv and Dushyant, are possibly the worst in the industry. They are insecure, incompetent and throttle good ideas. So many good people have left the team in the last few years, because they don’t let anyone thrive. If you dare to present an opinion that doesn’t celebrate them in front of the company, they ensure your growth in the company is stalled. They are misogynistic - Apuarv goes around making problematic statements day in and out, and he is enabled at every step. Dushyant is incapable,but has been promoted every single year, at the cost of the sanity of his entire team. He has systematically ensured that good, capable and talented people leave on their own, by stalling every single initiative that doesn’t make him the hero.

In short, Dushyant and Apuarv define everything that is wrong with Marketing in India today. When you have 7 Cr per month at your disposal, you can even get Hrithik to have a Razor Bae.

Of course, the company employees will come running to say that Razorpay is doing well. 35 Cr profit on a 2000 Cr revenue - it is not even 5% profit. But there is a wave, so hopefully they can make it up to a good IPO so that I can get some good returns on my ESOPs.
