Equal Opportunity Employer.. Meh

"We're an equal opportunity employer" …unless you're: – A woman returning from maternity – Over 40 – From a tier-3 city – Unemployed for more than 3 months – Or have a gap year

  • Or took time off for mental health and dared to mention it – Or didn't go to a "target school/ college" – Or don't play the "LinkedIn personal branding" game – Don’t fit the "young, hungry, 10x hustle" stereotype – Or have visible disabilities and need minor workplace accommodations

Because let’s face it - In that case - How dare YOU question OUR status?

Equality honestly looks great on your careers page. Doesn't it? Or the way I see it.. "Equal opportunity" is just employer poetry. Pretty to read. Painful to believe.

This has nothing to do with discrimination. Its demand supply economics. Most jobs in india are entry level jobs. or jobs that are clerical/mundane role that are shipped by the west so that they can focus on the value adding part of the business. and with higher supply of entry level cheap labor, there is no need to hire any of the category people mentioned in the list.

Check any job site for every job vacancy posted, there are at least 400-500 applicants within 3 days.

Has any one heard of asking such criteria for a painter/electrician/plumber? No, why - demand supply economics.

The "equal opportunity" trope is applicable for the west, Since Indians are desperate to copy the west in everything, they copied this as well. Indian offices celebrate Halloween, why does this surprise anyone.
