I think Sequoia and A16Z had this in mind:

  • Elon is super driven to build an Open AI competitor
  • Elon is excellent at navigating new frontiers: spacetech & EVs (the only person to do it twice like that)

Also honestly

  1. The market is proven to exist
  2. Founder has network
  3. Founder has earlier successes
  4. Founder has previous connections with OpenAI

Probably a no-brainer just because of these points. The valuation is bad though 😅 too much competition from other products
