I am working in a Prod support project. It's been 5 months since I joined the project. They have less dependency on me. How will the manager usually react if I ask for a development opportunity or early release ???

Same is my condition. I'm skilled in Java Spring Boot and I'm tagged to a support project. How can I switch to a dev project internally? I've only 10 months of experience as a support. Really need suggestions on this.
