E-Com Startup $300 million fund raise

Today there was a startup that raised $300 million dollars. I have never seen people around me use this product. Even when I go to my native villages and tier 3 towns no one I have heard uses this product.

Are these guys faking metrics to please investors or is there any genuine customer base?
