Don't let anyone tell you that Salary bands are fixed.

They aren't. PERIOD. If you apply - the band shrinks If they reach out - It expands to your liking If they are desperate - the band expands If you don't negotiate - "this is the max we can do" If you do negotiate - a new "range" magically appears If you negotiate too hard - "we must be fair to existing employees" If you are unemployed - "you should be considerate of market correction" If you are the management's top pick - Band?? what Band

In the rarity that the salary band is what is honored externally and internally.. it is exactly what it is.. a rarity

This is so true, I was told by an HR that they cannot go beyond X ctc, I told them I cannot join at that at it was just 1 lakh more than the offer I already had and declined, 2 days later they reached out to me saying ok we can agree on your proposed ctc. I was so disappointed and disheartened for those 2 days thinking I gave a good interview and did my best yet they wouldn’t give me my desired ctc which was just slightly more than X. If they had budget all along why play with candidate’s feelings.

Lol. They are not family to consider employee's feelings. It's pure transaction of your time/work with money.

The way it works is they have a certain % they don’t want to go over your current salary. But if you push and your manager pushes it’s possible to get exception. Doenst happen most of the time

Earlier slaves were only paid subsistence rations as wages by their masters,
These days slaves are paid salaries. But, Both are same and only allow a mere survival

At least slaves got acco other than substance rations. These people were allowed to maintain sustinence (mind the spelling please, brain not working enough to remember the correct spelling) because they had to work.

While here in this time,
If you're sick, come to office
If you worked for 10 hrs straight, work 10 hours more
If you spent 20 hours for a critical piece of work, congratulations! You got a slice of pizza and coffee that tastes like bitter dirt
I can go on and on. No respect for human self. Like at all

Is mere surbival even possible in today's salary? 😂 The way employees are treated people should be fuming with French Revolution-like protests all over the world

I'm an engineering leader in an IC role at a unicorn SaaS. They are fixed, at least in my company. I spent 3 months hiring EM for data science, and finally liked a guy back in March. He negotiated with 1cr offer from a high flying startup and our band ended at 70lac for an EM role. Despite fighting internally, I wasn't able to move the salary band for him and we ended up losing the best candidate.

The question is if you got approval would you also increase for existing candidate ?
