Don’t make Grapevine the next LinkedIn!

I see people here showing of their networth more than often. The stocks they have, the salary they draw and with their very little experience and young age.

Please let’s not make it another bragging platform.

Let’s get real. I’m putting out my story.

I got laid off, got a job after 2 months. Quit the job within a month as it needed me to relocate immediately (which was earlier supposed to happen after 3 months) plus I figured they had a very toxic culture (which I could figure before joining, but beggars can’t be choosers)

I have 2 months of runway with my savings I’m married. Wife is also on a break currently.

Current networth? (-)16 lacs. Have loans worth 25 lacs which will be over in next 5 years.

I have been a generalist all my life, and I figured post all this layoffs that no matter what you do, how much you put in, at the end you’ll just be a Number for the company and at times of difficulty they’ll lay you off.

What am I thinking next?

To find freelancing and consulting services along with a job which will just be required to pay my fixed monthly expenses and have my peace of mind and on the side build things what I really love and enjoy.

Will experiment the one or two ideas I have, if there are good responses and feedback and I sense a demand, will scale it up else move on to the next one.

I don’t want to retire ever, I want to keep working till my last breath, but a work I love doing, a work that will always let me have my peace of mind. I don’t want to make a billion dollar company, but something that gives meaning to things I am passionate about and people can connect themselves with.

P.s: I’m Not an Engineer 🙂

Would love to hear real stories from you! Put down your current situation, what are you planning, and what are you passionate about.

Beg to differ. We all have our independent vantage points and that’s what makes us unique. Let’s respect each others reality ✌🏽 All the best for navigating the tough situation you find yourself in 🙌🏻

You are the one asking everyone's networth in your post. On top of that you were commenting why you have saved so much less in spite of having so much YOE. Everyone have their vantage points not like everyone will earn 40 to 50LPA straight out of college degrees. Learn to appreciate others and don't showoff your wealth. No one cares about it other than you and yourself.

Hey thanks so much for this post. I agree the net worth and CTC stuff can be a bit of BS specially in these times.

I personally work at a company where I’m paid fair and am a dev. Having more salary helps as I use my salary to support my family as I’ve recently become the main earner

True, and like they say, “Keep your salary and love life private. 🙂” Don’t really understand the bragging part or why people are curious to know others’ income unless it is to actually understand the pay for a particular role and experience for their on personal requirement.

Also, it’s a proud and happy feeling as well as makes you a lot more responsible. Congratulations and best wishes.

Thanks for this post.

I see some folks respond to any post with a ‘ctc, yoe?’. I mean, really?

You should first understand that nameless & faceless people can brag... it may be all lies. Every role has its + & _ And not always only engineers get best salaries. Remember, if someone is prowling around such apps it means we are basically unhappy with our jobs.... otherwise we wont be here! Different people vent in different ways!!

How am I know how much an average successful guy makes without them bragging? Not talking about salary, net worth is what has kept the working class poor. If you knew how much rich people made without even lifting a finger, you would question why them and not us.

Don't have much to offer, am a student, and hence a reader/learner on Grapevine.

What I can offer, sir, are my best wishes for your success. No difficulty is insurmountable. Am sure your family will have a great future :)

IMHO nothing wrong. All humans are different with their own likes and dislikes and preferences for particular type of content.
