Yes, within one week HR may contact you and ask you to get early released. You don't ask for release else you will have to pay a notice period amount . If you have resigned while being on bench and not allocated to any project then definitely they will reach out to you for early release by paying the shortfall of notice period . This happened with me last month . They asked me to get early release by promising to pay the shortfall of notice period .
