Do you work on your off time?

If you were at a place where the only way to do well was to work in your off time or extended hours then would you do it? Doing it sometimes makes sense but if the place demands it most of the time either due to culture or lack of your own skill, what would you do? If you don’t then during working day it’ll get overwhelming. This is a double edged sword so I am wondering how everyone handles this bcoz it can lead to having no boundaries and burn out.

I do it but not out of pressure but out of the reason i like what i do. As long as i am learning things it's fine.
But it give me burnout so i make sure to take rest as well. This is usually common in startups where there are chill days and series of late nights even on weekends.
Working on off days helps me to relax on weekdays. So it's more like i work when i want

If you work less in weekdays then it’s fine. But if you work same hours in weekdays then whatever is your performance, it can only happen if you continue to work on your off hours. And sometimes it may happen you just cannot due to burn out or other situations in life, then your performance will drop and it could reflect poorly on you. Maybe working less at times can reset those expectations but otherwise it invites a cycle you might not be able to escape. Just trying to find views around this.

My work day starts by 9 concludes at 6:30 but usually I work till 8 and asked to support on weekends as well (which I try to avoid). It’s not just me. It’s the culture here.

They call it “work-life integration”. But when you want to leave after a half day cause you are feeling sick. They won’t allow.

Oh this is the worst. You’ve no control over this. If you stop following the culture then you’ll get bad ratings or laid off.
