Do you think while applying for the job or switch, meeting in-person helps?

There are many folks who apply for the jobs via websites, linkedin and other ways but I feel that if you are in that city and have good connections (provided you are skilled) with people rather than just sitting at far away places and applying online then it becomes easier to show yourself over other pool of applicants while creating meaningful connections.
