Do you think it's time for startup folks to enter politics?
I honestly doubt our politicians are capable of understanding, much less regulating, industries like AI, social media etc. Many businesses have left India for better regulations and taxes in other countries. Divisive politics has done enough damage on all fronts, there's a lack of effort in reducing corruption and increasing transparency.
Do you think it's practical for candidates with a professional/business/tech oriented agenda to enter politics? Would they receive enough support from the public if they focus on making India actually more business friendly and tech enabled?

Starup folks? You mean those guys who can't turn a profit even after burning a billion dollars? Nah!
Even the neighbourhood Pani puri wallah is a better businessman than them.

I don't mean those ones 😂 maybe have a criteria for profitable startup founders only lol

you have a point, i never considered. These startup folks are able to scam investors and loot crores creating nothing. They can be good politicians. If they can scam investors they can scam public too.

Startup folks have a god complex. They are not built for politics. All their bravery is limited to that poor salaried employee whom they can threaten to fire if they don't work for 18 hrs. with just water.

What's the point if all one can do is crib about laws and not try to actually change them

changing laws is not the topic here. Can start up folks become politicians? NO.

Considering how out of touch startup folks are with the general public and reality outside their immediate circles, the closest these folks are going to get to politics is through some nominations to rajyasabha or the state equivalents. Or the next best thing will be to get hired laterally to some ministry.
If you meant entering politics in terms of trying to become an elected member of lok sabha or legislative assembly, they can enter, but I guarantee their fate will be worse than that of Prakash Raj.
The closest 'startup folks' can get into active politics would be people who deal with labourers in construction or workers in a factory or people who are in operations of a startup. But considering you talk about AI, I doubt these are the people you had in mind when you said startup folks.

Interesting points and I do agree I wasn't thinking from a labour perspective but more of a tech expertise perspective. Worth considering I guess.
And yes, I did mean lok sabha and legislative assembly because we need serious law-making and amendments. India has very bad/non existent cybersecurity policy and framework, everything from govt websites to our electrical grids have been under attack from other countries.
Unbiased technical expertise is needed in LS imo.

I agree with what you are saying. And I don't want to sound too pessimistic. However, right now, as things stand, the best way to supplement this is to have more lateral hires with technical expertise in these matters. This is already happening at an accelerated pace in the last couple of years. These laterally hired people help develop laws. It will be indirect but I think it's working well for now. I am not sure how much of a benefit we can have by trying to get such experts in lok sabha instead of having them as subject matter experts that guide MPs.
Although, if you are serious enough about this or if anyone reading this is, I recommend getting started with volunteering. There are plenty of organisation such as youth for seva and teach India for education and many others in other fields. Feel free to tag me if you want me to help you get connected to a few people in these organisations.

What do you mean enter? All they are doing is politics in the startups.
