Depends on the language. Malayalam movies have consistently maintained their quality post 2008 after the massive Golden age between 1985-1995. Some of the Bollywood hits (Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, etc.) were all made from much older Malayalam movies of this era.
I feel that Kannada movie quality has substantially increased. There has been not much difference in quality in Telugu and Tamil movies.
Mainstream Hindi movies have mostly become shit. Bollywood cannot copy stories from other languages now as movies are launching simultaneously in every language. That said, some non-mainstream movies are awesome. Unfortunately public support in theatres is low.
Beg to differ on some points, 50+ malayalam movies released this year and the only outright hits were Romancham and 2018. Some OTT productions were decent, but otherwise this year has not been rewarding.
Globally, platforms are rushing to get new titles produced to retain userbase, thereby compromising quality. Biggest example is marvel itself. Producers have become cautious in taking on experimental projects and new diretors. Even a master such as Denis Villeneuve had to wait for the studio to observe the box office performance of Dune 1 to approve budget for Dune 2. With the strike going on in hollywood, I think the quality is about to go south even more.

Strongly disagree. A year can at maximum see only 4-5 good (not "hit") Malayalam movies as it is a relatively smaller industry. Other 2 of 2023 are:
- Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. Great concept and superb acting.
- Pachuvum Albuthavilakkum was above average.
Maybe one more good Malayalam film will come this year.

Bro… Watch Kohrra, Kaalkoot, Sandeep Bhaiya, Criminal Justice, Breathe and then we’ll talk.

Thanks.. Sandeep bhaiya is very melodramatic and seems like a big ad of Unacademy.. I liked Criminal justice the one with Vikrant Massey and Jacky shroff..and maybe you know it's based on U.K show.. Rest i haven't seen but will try..

There’s a lot of good stuff on Indian OTT nowadays, esp JioCinema, check them out.

Decreased? It's non existent now. There used to be a time when we'd look forward to an yearly bollywood auperhit (ddlj, mohabbatwin, kkhh era) now it aint shit
