I feel that 25% of these PMs are ZIRP era spoiler brats who know nothing about building products but are smart enough to wag their tongues in the right places.

You are absolutely right

I can vouch for this. Have seen one like that

The unnecessary and complicated products are built when it's built by biased founders and developers without any customer feedback/inputs. Ideally PMs should make it simple and easier for customer to use by syncing up regularly with the product designer and developers.

But PM Won't go against management if it's MNC or something big, even sometimes developer also know it won't work but if PM assigns they will also focus on it

As I said most service based companies are running like this just want to waste time and get project extension from client

Anonymise, abstract and give.

Bad PMs do that, yes. But a good PM also does sometimes because that's what they are asked to do.

He is saving his job by increasing the complexity of the product and increasing his dependency on the project and the company by making an impression that he can only handle this mess

that's fine by me I hate the part where nigga forgets the same dependencies in the next feature and I have to remind him😩

No one is giving good (or any) examples of where a complicated product was created to save job.

Swiggy one membership..no one can explain it's pricing..while good PM keep it simple like amazon

ZippySushi

Hey- pricing at swiggy most likely wouldn’t be a product call. It should be but it isn’t. PMs take a lot of hate for things that are decided by other and most likely much stronger stakeholders.

I as a slightly more sr PM can pick up fights when I see something is not right but you’ll have to pick your fights since we all have to pay those credit card bills on cred at the end of the month, right?

The problem comes when orgs build solutions looking for problems. Too many Devs, Data Scientists and Leadership folks are guilty of this. In an org of such culture, if PMs deviate from the normal, they become the difficult person.

WobblyRaccoon

A biased perspective from PM. This happens when

  • The PM is inexperienced
  • The PM is incompetent (Got into product by accident / for money or not trained well)
  • The stakeholders are too strong and PM fails to manage random requests from them

One of my earlier pm was very bad

whenever I asked any doubt about product, why this why this way

he start presenting Matrix on meeting and speak so much English words, unnecessary making things complicated to understand and after speaking 30 min constant I was like .. ok, go ahead

JazzyPenguin
JazzyPenguin

he was literally giving very long reason why transaction merchant count has gone up and down by 20-30%

are Bhai data hi itna low hai ki 200 ka 30% bhi 60 hota hai, to 60 merchant up down can look so much in terms of percentage 😂
