Do you give 100% in your jobs, should you?
Do you give 100% in your jobs, should you, does your answer differs if you work at a startup or an MNC. Given you are replaceable, and company makes a lot of money out of what you do versus ethics: you should work well if someone is paying you well for it

I used to give 100%, then i realized i was just getting screwed. So, now i hardly do 40%, they are saying am a great employee. Ethics??, there is no honor among thieves. Moreover why do you want to give 100%? are you in depression or what?

Exactly, 100% is so aubjective. For employers, it means give your life to the job, for employees, it means give your 100% in the 8 hr work day.
It's also true that many Indian managers only exploit you if they notice you give 100%. Do your 30-40% well, reap the rewards of bonuses and promotions 🤑

Funny enough, I do give my 100% only when I don't have much else going on in my life. Won't go so far as to say I'm depressed but getting shit done at work provides a dopamine spike at such moments.

if you were hiring someone for some work at your home, what would you expect from them?

Exactly. People are so crippled being. How can a person not have few Nobel philosophical reasoning in themselves? Every child of today, must understand philosophy from schools. It will help greatly.

But you're not hiring yourself so you can give 100% perceived effort

People need the option - I used to give 100%

There must be options such as I didn't and got fired and started crying here.... I did and didn't get promoted and stopped and then got fired and started crying here

Don’t…..just don’t. It’s never appreciated. It’s a whole different scenario if you are working for your own startup though.

I didn't give my 100% in my last organisation. I was just another employee or a resource for them. My CTO used to call developers a commodity. My current organisation treats people really well. I give my 100% here

I think a lot of it depends on your peers. If you have extremely hard working or brilliant peers, you have to match up to them by giving your 100% or more than that.
If your peers are just about average, you just have to slightly out-perform them by giving whatever % is needed

Yup, peers and deadlines
How do you define 100% as? If that is your whole day's energy, then NO. My suggestion would be to constantly understand what the expectations for the role are. Spend no more than 8 hours on your job, and plan the next day ahead of time, so that you give slightly more than what the manager is expecting, but consistently. If it is more than 8 hours, communicate proactively.
