Mainly religious reasons. As a muslim it is mandatory to donate 2.5% of your total invested assets (cash, gold, real estate, stocks etc) at the end of every financial year, which you can even spread across the year in donations.

Ay thatโ€™s really nice
I didnโ€™t know this

I do wish more of us had a fixed % we committed to, over time that % could lead to so much impact (put in the right places)

Is it to anyone? Christians have a rule of annual where we have to pay some % of our income to the Parish (church we are registered)

Supporting school education of two bright girls from the lower income segment of the society. Monthly cash outlay is around 11k. We have an NGO in our neighbourhood which identifies talented kids and matches them with a sponsor. In addition, I give around 50k in a year to religious charities (mostly in Vrindavan) and some help here and there to people I know like maid, driver, milkman, security guards etc. Feel very fortunate to be able to do charity and earn good karma.

I believe that everyone should donate at least 2-5% of total annual earnings, to any trusted NGOs. The donations can be by cash, or by online order of commodities. I do that as a rule. Usually, I do that on my birthday, or before festivals. I have a few trusted NGOs, which I have personally visited. And apart from those a few trusted NGOs I donate to, in case of calamities or any special donation drives. Goonj is on NGO, I have never visited but I trust, so I donate every once in a while. But big chunk of my donations go to local NGOs where I have visited earlier, and even now try to visit once a year on special occassions.

Upto you, I think we shouldn't judge people who don't donate but pay taxes. It's one and the same thing except with donations you can donate to a cause you like

I donate 2% of my income. We all earn higher than 90 - 95% of fellow Indians and any amount we donate have a bigger impact for the rest. I donate mostly to the fund raise requests coming via milapp or other platforms from my trusted circle (iim groups etc)

Well done. I do the same, anything between 2-5%, via multiple means. I think 2% is bare minimum. If someone earns 10 lakhs, 2% is just 20,000. My guess is, All empathetic person must be donating at least that much.

I have a 1000 rupees monthly payment on going for giveindia.org and a WhatsApp Contact where whenever they send me a case I donate 500. Currently at 1% of annual income. Planning to increase it to 5k a month though

Is giveindia really trusted?

Orga I have visited and seen the work, have known people as volunteers.

The biggies have the majority of their cost going in ops - hence do not Prefer (I graduated from a tier 1 B-School, and big NGOs offered a bomb salary, on researching I found they spend a lot on collection and ops)
