Do you agree with this for 90s appliances compared to the new ones?

Sometimes the same brand appliances are of deteriorated quality than the older ones.

Our house had an ONIDA TV that lasted 25+ years. Was built like a frkn tank. Since we gave that away, we've bought 2 TVs in 6 years.

yup same case one of my maternal aunt has coloured Panasonic tv which is still in use till now.Me and my cousin brother use to watch cartoon network etc in that during our summer holidays when I would visit their home lol. that was early 2000s somewhere around 2004-2007. And coming to present day it is still there in their drawing room working as fine as back then.Japanese brands really have quality.

Also survivorship bias, not everything was just as sturdy and durable.

Got to learn a new bias.

Btw I agree that not everything was of that quality but in general some high quality things those days used to last at least half a decade and these days it barely lasts a quarter of a decade.

You would find high quality stuff even now too. My Lenovo laptop I bought in college still works, though it can't run much stuff.

Planned obsolesce

Why make one thing that can last, when we can charge multiple times for a thing that will break!

My old house had a LG refrigerator which is almost 40+ years old and still working.

Last month I stayed in a hotel built in 1972 and it's original HVAC system and elevators were still operational.

Planned obsolescence is just a phase before they force perpetual subscriptions onto us.
