Distribution is the real moat, but all channels are broken. No, I’m not promoting any new channel/app here. Real discussion

A couple of years ago, distribution was mostly needed for a GTM strategy for new ventures, not for self-promotion or jobs. You put out good content or meet a bunch of industry-related folks, you could get an interview call or feedback on your projects, and hustle.

But now? Both with the power of AI and sloppy recommendation models on GTM channels like LinkedIn and Twitter, it has become tremendously difficult to get noticed via building in public, unless you are creating video content. The frequency of posts - mostly ai sloop, generated on one prompt and a normie audience-led recommendation model, the quality posts are not able to reach even the network, let alone the greater network connections.

It may seem like I'm ranting, but it's true!

Have been noticing for a year now, I have been putting well-researched content on product management stuff ~ product improvement ( how to fix yt recap 2025), product launch & strategy (launching a fashionTech work wear vertical), product marketing ( how Netflix could leverage ai pipelines for personalization), product lifecycle & my learnings from my work.

But nothing gets impressions, let alone engagement, except college graduation and personal milestones. Now you may see, it's my network, but no, my network mostly has relevant folks from my industry, profile is optimized and updated, but still no results.

All my hirings till now have been via LinkedIn content, and I believe resumes are a reflection of your work history, not your depth & clarity on your work, you can only explain and summarize in a resume, but building in public sends out a signal what you are capable beyond your work demands and can venture into other arenas as well, as you have foundational level skills.

Every recruiter I know is fed up with those AI-sloped, templated resumes, with keyword optimizations, and making it difficult for them in resume screening, but they are in the minority, most still follow the resume route for screening and look for keywords and specific domain experience, and they are flooded with sms and emails to go though all messages, in those cases only building in public makes one stand out,

But with this recommendation engine and low-level post push, it has become almost impossible for early product management folks to look for opportunities and grow.

Would like to know how others are dealing with this.

You know the solution, you said it yourself. Video content is need of the hour because it's one of the few ways left to establish legitimacy and proof of humanness.

Of course, not everyone's suited or comfortable with filming themselves and putting it out there, but the ones who are absolutely should. No two ways about it.
