Dining Out >>> Ordering In
Lately, I’ve been skipping the whole Swiggy and Zomato thing and just heading out to eat instead. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the convenience of ordering in—I’ve definitely had my fair share of lazy nights where it’s been a lifesaver. But honestly, it’s starting to feel like a rip-off.
Prices are insane. I get that I’m paying for convenience, but come on—why am I paying almost 1.5x for the same meal after discounts? I’ll scroll through, add a few things to the cart, and suddenly it’s this inflated bill that makes me wonder if I’m secretly ordering for two people.
And the food? It’s just better when you have it fresh. Take California Burrito, for example. There’s something about eating it hot at the store that just hits different. You lose that magic when it’s been sitting in a delivery bag for 30 minutes. The freshness, the crunch—it all just fades. (@BertMueller I had this epiphany when I was at your Indiranagar store to redeem my CBGV50♥️)
Then there’s the over-ordering thing. We’ve all been there — trying to hit that minimum cart value for free delivery. So, you end up adding extra sides or desserts you didn’t even want in the first place. When you dine out, you eat exactly what you want, no forced add-ons.
Plus, heading out for a meal is a mini escape. You walk, you get out of the house, and it’s a lot more fun than sitting in your shorts waiting for the doorbell. Even the simple act of being out in the world adds something to the experience.
So yeah, I’ve been choosing dining out over delivery more and more. Better food, better value, and you avoid that weird guilt from spending too much on a cold meal.
P.S. DM me for local bangalore joints, have an entire list ready - let me know what area in DMs :)

Very right and nicely put.
I also 'wish' to dine out even for one item but the problem is whom to take along when you have very limited friends? Going for dine out alone doesn't feel right and therefore end up ordering at home only :(

it’s starting to feel like a rip-off.
It always was, not good for customers, not good for restaurants, and not good for delivery drivers either. The only group that benefits from this is the top shareholders.

Disagree, the problem is with restaurant owners passing the commission cost to consumers - but again it’s a free market and they are free to charge what they want to
Whether or not that’s ok with you is your decision :)
Still ultra bullish on companies promoting gig economy - the number of jobs created is insane

Absolutely agree! I also hate it that now swiggy and zomato have hidden the invoice details when you order something. Only when you click on it then only it shows you how much is charged where.

True, I added a shawarma that costed 120rs and then on the checkout page, its showing pay me 295rs bish. I was like WTF is use of One Membership, when the restuarant is close but then they have a new rule that mun order should be 199 only then you'll have free delivery. This was something I discovered when I searched for the breakdown which is damn well hidden. Like it literally blends with the white background.
As a designer myself, this feels like something that has been done on purpose. Like they don't want us to see the breakdown and just shell out money to them

Don't know where you stay but traveling in Marathahalli and Bellandur is one hell of a task.
Bangalore is dying. And everyone is paying unnecessarily tax to Govt and mafias

Home cooking>>> dinning out>>> ordering in

What generally do people cook at home? Like easy recipes that taste good, if you have any?

Just one point you missed to talk about - the cost of travel. If you own a car and go to a mall - petrol and parking costs are much more than what Swiggy charges. It’s a mini escape but that comes up with an additional cost which you missed. Not all food joints you can simply walk to.

I’m not making a general statement, ofcourse it’ll cost you more if take your car etc - cost isn’t the only thing I’m referring to, the quality of food is also wildly different

With same price you can cook good food at home only.

Folks @ Swiggy/Zomato
How are you all feeling about ONDC, what's the general atmosphere like and did you guys have prior notice that this was an incoming event.
