Design folks! Need your help to pick a college for my brother..

Seeking Advice for Design Schools (UI/UX) for My Sibling! (Posting here as Bangalore is a hub for top notch designers)

Hi everyone, I'm posting on behalf of my younger sibling, who’s passionate about design and needs some guidance.

Background:
My sibling recently completed 12th grade but didn’t clear JEE Mains, ruling out NITs. His best engineering options are SRM (CS) or Manipal (non-CSE), but he’s leaning toward design over engineering. He believes a mid-tier design school would be a better fit than a mid-tier engineering college.

Skills & Interests:
He’s self-taught in Figma and enjoys creating UI/UX designs in his free time (I’ll share some of his initial work in the comments). He also codes (basics rn, I'm sure he's gonna get good at it over the time), which he’d love to combine with design. Unfortunately, due to his JEE focus, he missed out on preparing for UCEED, NID, or similar design entrance exams.

What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking reputable design schools in India offering UI/UX or related programs (e.g., interaction design, product design) that:

  • Don’t require UCEED, NID, or other design entrance exams.
  • Accept admissions based on JEE mains, 12th-grade marks, portfolios, interviews, or management quota (we’re open to paying for management seats).

Request:
If anyone has recommendations for such schools, insights on their programs, or advice on navigating admissions, we’d greatly appreciate it! Personal experiences or suggestions for portfolio-building to strengthen his application would also be super helpful.

Thank you in advance for your support!
