You are not able to grasp the big picture of what is happening around in industry. With the entrance of AI coding and low level design has no value. That means anyone bellow an architect has not real value or security in IT jobs. Look at the stock market IT index it is crashing down like anything.
You are still early in your career and will have some flexibility in moving around roles. In that sense you better positioned than many who have heavily invested in tech skills which are rapidly losing value.
For many of us, it is the time to redefine of our career paths.

Hi gentlemen, Since you have been in industry for years, What skills are you learning and investing your time? How you are trying to future proof your skills for as long as as possible. Where are you taking your next bets?

@SurefootedPajamas what skills do you recommend to learn for a normal dev with 3 - 4 years of experience in a service based company who may not be able to survive the wrath of AI

Hi,
First of all, don’t feel depressed -many of us have felt stuck at some point. The good thing is you’re thinking about improving, and that’s already a big step 👍
Before jumping directly into coding, try to evaluate what tools or technologies you’ve worked on in your support role. Even support projects give exposure to systems, databases, monitoring tools, or sometimes cloud platforms. If you have any exposure to cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), I’d suggest exploring that path. It’s often easier to transition from support into cloud or DevOps-related roles compared to moving straight into core development without coding experience.
With 4+ years of experience, expectations can be higher, so it’s better to build on the skills you already have and gradually move toward advanced roles.
My suggestion would be: • Identify the skills you already have. • Upgrade those into a more in-demand direction (cloud, DevOps support, production support with automation, etc.). • Then gradually move toward more advanced roles.
This is just my personal suggestion but remember, your experience is valuable. Take it step by step. You can definitely make a good switch 💪

Thank you so much for your comment. I will 👍
