Denied Swipe In for wearing Sandals
Yesterday, I went to the office to log in. When I tried to swipe in, I was denied access because the security team said that wearing shoes is mandatory from Monday to Friday. I asked the security guard when this rule was implemented, and he claimed it had been in effect for the past one month. This didn’t make sense to me because I last swiped in on 25th November while wearing sandals, and no one stopped me.
Then another security person joined the conversation and said the rule had been in place for the past two weeks, not one month. When I asked where the official communication was, he said that HR had already sent an email and that team leads were instructed to inform their teams. But I never received any communication from HR or my TL.
I requested an exception just for that day because I would have had to travel 20 km back home just to change into shoes. I also mentioned that I had been unwell for the past two weeks, which is why I had taken an exception to work from the office. Despite explaining all this, the security head refused and insisted that I get an email from HR. It was already 8:00 PM on a Friday. Which HR team works at 8:00 PM on a Friday? I told them the same, but they still said they couldn’t do anything without an email and that I must return wearing shoes.
I honestly don’t understand how they expect employees to deal with such situations. It’s fine if they want to enforce a dress code, but where is the communication? When I asked again, they said that boards were installed in front of the office. This is not acceptable. What exactly are they trying to achieve with this approach?

I am more surprised at people calling TCS pathetic for this reason. There are many genuine reasons to call TCS pathetic but not this. Where’s your basic manners? Basic etiquette? Imagine getting all that education, clearing college and job interviews to get into corporate and not even knowing dressing appropriately. Will you wear shorts to a wedding or track pants to a dinner date. Office is a professional setup. Dressing professionally is bare minimum.

Oh then why are the other companies are not following it… I am not at all against the dress code, I have just mentioned the sudden implementation of the rule… I have seen many people coming to the office without shoes many times… Come on guys it’s a Friday and you people are too judgemental here…

So true

I am not being judgemental at all…..BUT….Swipe IN at 8PM? That too in sandals? Dress Code Policy is in place for as long as I know In addition, periodic reminders are also send for dress code. And still you are complaining? If other people go and jump in the well…to unke peeche kood jaoge ki apne dimag ka thoda istemaal karoge! Waise to foreign mein tissue ka hi istemaal hota hai, phir tumko kyu paani chahiye?

See, we are just Swiping in and Swiping out.. That's it.. By the way show me one email where we are getting a periodic email regarding dress code? After seeing your comment, I opened my outlook and checked. I didn't see any email related to the dress code. Well I am not at all against wearing shoes..

While ideally they should have given a heads-up to not wear sandals from next time and allowed to swipe, but this is how TCS has become now, pathetic absolutely
For all other companies casuals, sandals, western everything is allowed, we are becoming more of a mission school and not an AI aspiring service organisation

Acha kya security walo ne!! Sandals pehke hagne ke liye gayethe kya!! Atleast basic professionalism hona to chahiye!!
