Dear Hiring Manager.. fuck you too..
We have bullied recruiters long enough.
- You don't read resumes
- You just search keywords
- You miss great talent
- You're lazy Cool. Valid. Honestly, a majority of them deserve this. I agree and I support this.
But let's talk about the other half of the funnel. The ones with titles like - Engineering Manager, Director of Product yada yada.. Lets talk about the "Hiring Managers"... You think they read resumes? They Ctrl+F their way through it. Looking for that one magic word. React. Kafka. Series A. SAAS. AI. LLM. Flipkart. Amazon. Google... IIT, ISB, IIM (feel free to add whatever I am missing..) And if it's not written exactly how they want it? You're out. Not because you weren't capable. But because they didn't spot the word.
Forget capability. Forget potential. Forget transferable skill. You didn't say "Cloud-Native"? Dead You wrote "JavaScript expert" but forgot "ES6"? Dead Wrong buzzword, wrong era, wrong font? Dead
Stupidly mad funny how recruiters got all the heat. But hiring managers? They have been quietly wearing the same yellow-tinted glasses. Just as blind Just as biased Just as keyword-obsessed It's yellow on both sides The color of fear The color of lazy hiring The color of "I want the best" but won’t do my best to find them.
So next time you want to shame a recruiter - Ask the hiring manager how they shortlist. Oh yeah.. also don't buy "I read their resume" line.. 3-5 seconds skimming through doesn't cut. Neither does 30 seconds :) (just saying..)
Some days back.. I had a chat with a recruiting leader.. who was talking to a staffing partner explaining.. "get this written on the resume.. hiring manager wont proceed until he sees ********* written on the resume" I will leave it for your imagination to fill in the blanks in the above statement. Thats the reality we live in. But don't talk about.
My mum once told.. me .. You can either see a person or see a person. And you will learn the difference with time.
Cheers

So true. One HR called me few days back. She asked do you know JS. I told her yeah but we don’t use here because we use java in backend. Then she was “ooo okay”. I said, i can learn it, it just a tool.
Likewise she asked couple of tech and tools which we don’t use. And she was hell bent to find those keywords either from my resume or from me only.
Then I got rejection mail yesterday. Peak clown behaviour.
Why don’t they understand that a guy who is working in a particular tech stack can also work in other tech stack.

Haha. Drinks on me when we rant :)

Faced exactly the same issue with an HR from Razorpay. She literally rejected me because I didn't know Vue, even though the role I had applied for, never mentioned Vue anywhere in the JD. I too said its just another framework and it won't take me much time before I get comfortable with it and she just said "hmm. Okay" and ended the call and I later got a mail that I've been rejected.
If this screening was in person, I probably would have made some actions that would have instilled some senses into her and have her get rid of her "I'm smart and I'm great" ego behaviour

Dear recruiters, how the fsck am I supposed to gain real-world experience with some tech if you WON'T ALLOW ME TO GAIN THAT EXPERIENCE BY WORKING ON SAID TECH?!

1000+ upvote.. Just one correction.. Start writing Dear Recruiter/ ORG Leader/ Dimwit/ Numbskull Department Head Why should Recruiters have all the fun! They aint making the decision ..

Well the market is flooded with engineers, majority of them low quality, fake experiences and zero knowledge.
No hiring manager is going to sift through and 'read' 100 resumes a day. They look for signals.

so you think Hiring Managers actions are valid?

Depends on how you define 'valid'. This is how hiring works today. I know this post is a rant but you're naive if you think hiring is based only on 'great talent'. You'll understand one day when you manage a team and own the P&L.
Just like there are a lakhs of mediocre engineers out there, there are thousands who are mid level and get the job done. It's not like engineers in india are doing CS research or churning out parents. They're building web apps or business logic, using widely available and standardized tools and platforms. This doesn't need talent, it just needs knowledge of the tools , dedication and willingness to learn. HMs and companies are ok to let go of 'great talent' , what hurts them most is hiring someone without work ethic. It slows down their projects and delivery. Matching experience, pedigree or good names on resume provides one level of filtering for them and mitigates risk.

From personal experience, Recruiters are still the assholes. I have the data to prove it.

If I had a dollar for everytime I heard this 😂

We only want IIT/IIM par bc tum bhi to Apple, Amazon, Meta, maang bhaang, faang nahi ho, why would a IIT/ii. Ka choda would work for a random Ass startup. These ch*tia managers think they are build some next level shit, ruk ja bhai you are just creating a crud app that to copied form china or USA.

Jethalal.. You are a homie. CRUD app from china :: ROFL

Ye gusse ko thanda mat hone do Guru

koshish yehi rahegi guru

I’m still in process of getting one offer Thanks to some of these mean A** CTOs (not even Hiring or Potential reporting managers) who have rejected me for slight bit of their inconveniences not fulfilling something. All of this after clearing 2-3 rounds already. Happened with me in 3 places where I have interviewed in last 2 months. Guess what, all these 3 openings are yet to be filled as I can see the LinkedIn feed with reposts for the same. These boomerang Folks have become more rude & gatekeeping at this point.

Instead of ranting you could cater your resume to get through ATS system, the system is literally a game that you can learn to how to get into. Use AI don’t come here and complain.

OP is asking the right way, how the HR filters out us one day if everyone is winning that ATS game ?
