Dealing with mental health issues

Trying to understand how our generation fares with mental health issues. I would love to know why people who have some issues haven't sought help. I'd want to have a healthy discussion here.

M, have issues, haven't sought help
F, have issues, haven't sought help
M, have no mental health issues
F, have no mental heath issues
M, sought professional help
F, have sought professional help

Sought help, realised that not asking for help was much much better. No one wants a vulnerable wife, daughter, partner, friend. The moment you open up, they start seeing you as a week person. And they may admit it, but it is true.

That being said- sought professional help as well, but that also did not help

What do you want to understand about seeking out help?

How do people reach out and seek help? Where do they look? What reasons stop them from going out and getting help?

How do you reach out and seek help? -> Search for the doctor, psychiatrist or psychologist (google), read reviews, find that they aren't bogus, and when you have verified their authenticity - schedule a call.

What reasons stop them from going out and getting help ->

  1. Lack of awareness about mental illnesses, what the symptoms look like, when to ask for help. Most of the time people aren't aware of their illness, especially the younglings.
  2. You have to have a safe space to be able to talk about your problems. If someone doesn't have that, they are probably never going to get the treatment because there is no one to advocate for them.
  3. Societal pressure - log kya kahenge. Whether we like it or not, mental illnesses are treated as tabboo.
  4. Explaining their immediate family about their condition, and making them understand they need professional help. This is the biggest task because Indian parents like to think that they gave their child the best life and they can't have these issues.

It is very High chance that each one of us would have gone through the mental health issues without even knowing it. It is about the awareness of the problem and what kind of help can we seek. Sometimes I don't know what I am going through qualifies for a problem or just a minor temporary disturbence. Also don't what kind of help can be sought and where.
