Dead B.Tech!
Why are people behind B.Tech (especially CSE) when Coding is dead?
Given: a) AI doing most of the work
b) 15 lakh students graduating every year
c) Most of them getting paid just 4 LPA, while the college fee itself is more than 10 Lakhs
d) High Unemployment Rates
e) Fresher Jobs are Non-Existent
Coding is very small part of B.Tech. (CSE), generally only 1-2 courses in all 4 years. Most of the courses in CSE, are about the theory of how computers work, including :
- Math parts - Discrete Math, Automata theory, Theory of Computation, Complexity Theory
- The Hardware part - Digital Logic, Microprocessors, Computer Architecture & Organization
- The Systems part - Operating System, RDBMS, Computer Networks
- Software Engineering part - SDLC, System Design, Quality Assurance
So just because coding is AI assisted, doesn't mean the whole field of Computer Science itself is vanishing. And this broad range of knowledge is necessary to work with computer systems in many different roles and areas.
To take a medical analogy akin to the activity of Coding vs the field of Computer Science, today surgeons are doing surgery by hand. Tomorrow if that is replaced by AI assisted or robot performed surgery, the whole field of medicine won't go away, and people will continue doing MBBS because the broad knowledge taught about human body will be useful in many different roles and areas within the field of Medicine.
Till now, many CS related jobs were manual coding heavy. They will evolve into newer roles in working with computers where coding is more AI assisted. But the industry dealing with computers and software systems, and the field of Computer Science will continue to exist.
