Dating mixer update/postmortem : Did not go as planned πŸ™‡

9 LGBTQ+people 11 straight people (8 women, 3 men). 20 people total, bunch of last minute cancellations.

Not enough straight dudes showed up compared to the straight women. The ones that did , weren't that appealing to the women.

Everything started an hour late because everyone was stuck in Delhi traffic coming from work and arrived late and disgruntled.

Standup comedy went well. But nobody was in the mood to try the mini games we had planned. Had to skip to DJ soon because we were out of time.

People didn't mix with others enough because it was open to friend groups. And no one was interested in dancing, they all wanted to talk more.

25-35 age bracket was too narrow, 21-40 seems a little more flexible.

Made a loss on the event overall but not by too much thankfully. Breaking even would've been best case scenario for a first time format anyways.

Learnings : No Friday event, only Saturday or Sunday. Getting Saturdays is a challenge so most likely Sunday event next time.

No friend groups, solo and double tickets so at least one friend can come along for company.

No DJ or dance, only background music max. Dance plans people can figure on their own after the event anyways, social did have their own scene going on downstairs where some people hung out for a while longer before leaving.

Need to try and balance gender ratio better next time. Hard to manage with last minute bookings and cancellations, will have to think of something.

Events don't always go as planned, execution risk is always there no matter what you do. But decent learnings for the first time. Will definitely improve the next time. Thought I'd share a postmortem for those who might be interested to know how it went.

Mumbai and Bangalore are being planned next. Let's see how it goes. Will share dates on GV when confirmed.

Don't refund for last minute cancellations, let's say,
Before 24 hrs - no refund
Before 48 hrs - 50% refund or something like that.

That would still require gender ratio balancing last minute. Trying to think of solutions here.

Really appreciate that you have shared your learnings with honesty. Managing supply demand will be critical. Maybe try to understand how niche dating platforms work and when do they start working.

Yeah, that was unexpected tbh. I was expecting more straight guys to come.

9 LGBTQ+ out of 20 who showed up , great number though

Yes, there were 2 queer women as well. So women do seem interested in such events overall i think. Just need to get more people so that there are more options for everyone.

Great event op. I have attended board game clubs on 3 sundays in my town. Add a board game to introduce themselves. Still long a way to go. They are selling 55 tickets after doing for a year. So try to engage them with some activity. This is a advice from a person who has not done business, so it take with grain of salt.

Thanks, appreciate it. Board games are also fun but probably not good for a mixer event. Learning rules and getting used to games takes 1-2 hours easily. Not a lot of conversation happens between the games.

Maybe a dedicated board game event could be figured out, but that's already happening in many places and isn't really monetizable afaik. I know a pretty big group doing regular meet-ups in NCR but they're not ticketed.
