Cousins Laptops stolen !!

My cousin just landed a contract job with Amazon and started staying in a pg in Bangalore. He woke up today morning and found his phone and 2 laptops missing ( New phone that got delivered 2 days ago worth 20k and 2 laptops ( work + personal) !!!

Can someone guide on quick actions to be taken and

  1. How to deal with bangalore police ?
  2. How will Amazon react about a contract employee losing a new laptop ?
  3. We have CCTV footage of a person entering the room and taking all the 3 assets. How best to use this to get the assets back ?

First of all inform the Amazon IT team about it. Every company has insurance for their assets. So they'll activate the theft mode on their laptop. Ask Amazon itself if they need an FIR registered.

Yes, did that as the first step but the IT team apparently is on leave today and will take action on Monday !

To register an FIR police will ask for bills but you won't have that so I don't think you will be able to register an FIR. But worth visiting the nearby police station

There won't be an impact from Amazon. They'll just ask for an FIR to confirm the incident and provide an alternate laptop for you to work. It is police responsibility to file an FIR which is essential for you in this case, so give them justification and remind them that it is their duty to do it

E FIR also works I guess

Sure thanks, we did the E FIR and also trying to push for a regular FIR. As you are from Amazon, do you have any idea if FTE vs. contract employees will be treated the same in this case ?

Since it is an Amazon owned laptop, so Amazon will deal with the Bangalore Police on their own, you just need to preserve all the evidence you have.

Amazon has asked for a FIR copy and the police is asking 30k for the FIR

Same happened with me for my company MacBook which is got stolen from my room, 1st IT team has asked me for the FIR, I have done a e- fir. Offline local police is not accepting my compliments so I have done eFIR then when eFIR got approved the local police will call you for the bayan and they will ask you for the bill of the laptop. Company may aks some money which is required for initiating the insurance process. For me they haved asked 25k.

Why does company ask for money? It happened with me as well. They didn’t ask me directly for money; however, 80–90% was covered by the insurer, and the remaining amount had to be borne by the employee. That portion was deducted either from the salary or during the full and final settlement.

I mean the same with me also , they didn't ask directly.

Same thing happened with me, just try to file an FIR usually bangalore police will not take , convince them and file an FIR because insurance team in office will ask for FIR to strike off the case.
And there will be lot of mental stress I know . Please take care !! Area in bglr?

How did you manage to file an FIR though ? There is something called an E-FIR , any idea if that works for Amazon ?

You won't get your device back...only get frustration in the end...Just for an Org. file E-FIR and submit a copy to your organization and move on...

Yes, his room mate left the door unlocked and he was sleeping. The whole theft is clearly captured in CC TV footage too

Contact Broseph and they’ll help you with the FIR. Dont pay a single penny for filing an FIR.
