Coursera announces Layoffs

The CEO announced another round of layoffs today. Exact count not known yet, but the company is keen to cut down employee cost in line with flat revenues and increase leverage.

Expecting low impact on the India team, but let's see.

Recent Coursera layoffs were a challenging. In my view as one who has closely followed the company's development. It was difficult to ignore the stress when I heard the announcement. It's helpful to hear that the effect on the India team is going to be short, even though the company is concentrating on reducing staff expenses. However, doubts remain because it is unknown how many employees will be laid off. It is clear that Coursera is making difficult choices in order to improve its financial standing.

Yes. You are right. Mostly, companies lay off employees to reduce costs that are spent on paying salaries to hundreds or even thousands of employees. In a public letter, the layoffs were announced. I think about 150 employees will be laid off from Coursera. Some of my acquaintances are really worried about the situation and many of them have already started looking for new jobs.

I have been keeping an eye on Coursera development, but today CEO revealed another round of Coursera layoffs, I was both shocked and nervous. As I have worked in the edtech industry, so I know how difficult it is to find a balance between running expenses and revenue growth. But the decision is an example of the difficult choices businesses have to make during uncertain economic times. The Coursera layoffs raise concerns about the company's future even though they might not have as much of an effect on the India team. As an outsider I am interested to see how this will change their globally strategy and if they can continue to grow at this rate.

Two years ago Coursera layoffs happened. And from what I have heard, the company let go of 40+ employees, many of whom contributed significantly to Coursera. After two years, the CEO has announced another round of layoffs. But, I’m still not certain about the number of employees they are letting go. All I know is that 10% of the workforce would be affected by this decision. The reason Coursera is laying off employees is because of lower growth rates.
