The so called "cheap Indian engineers" are treated way worse than them. Even in terms of layoffs, labor laws, notice period or leaves, our situation is worse than them.

Yeah. US employees can at least think of retiring early with their savings. Here, in India, only very few can.

this is just an emotional outburst. None of what he said is doable, except investing wisely. He stayed in the company for 12 years, because he found growth. He built a large team.. am sure he wasn't hired to lead a large team on day one.

Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Hierarchy in the organization is steep. May be the top 1% is going to be employed till retirement. Rest of the population is going to get fired by 50(if lucky). Its impossible for everybody to start a side business /side income. Achieving WLB is next to impossible. Why? companies pit people against each other. If i dont work harder than the guy next to me, he will get promoted. I will be laid off at the next recession. I will be fired and the "house wife" coming from her career break at a lesser pay will be my preferred replacement. Your leading technology today will become obsolete 10 years from now. There is no way to keep learning and getting updated at that speed.

So, long story short. we are going to crash land, the only question is how can we improve our odds at survival.

I have lived my career with the same statement that I am not loyal to companies and dont believe in company worship and also against the statement that "dont say bad about your company as it is or has been providing you your bread and butter". I have been criticised a lot by many but dont give a duck about it as its been my skilss who earned me bread and butter.
Role can be anything - FTE, Contractor, consultant, freelancer. In the end, I provide them my services and in exchange, they pay me money!

Its actually somewhat true. What happens is, there are some incompetent people who gets promoted to the senior positions. Now their main task is to improve margins, since they dont have any idea about the work/business growth ( most of then are asslickers btw thats how they got to senior position ) what they simply do is plan to layoff some amount of workforce and reduce the increments to single digits, This way they would be able to save cost and margins show little improvement. These so called great leaders get huge bonuses and then they simply resign.

It is high time we should have a closed group of people like minded in terms of:

  1. work culture, wlb expectations
  2. Layoff culture, action needed in such times This will help make sure each one is interview ready at all times and can help each other uplift/prep. But again, world is too harsh and each of us is himself/herself pitting against each other :(

Every senior leader who quits and join another company does this. People hire from the competitor for their knowledge.

MoEngage is not a good place to be at. I can totally understand why that employee did something like this
