Constant bullying on GV

What steps is GV taking to address the ongoing bullying that’s happening through comments and posts? While everyone has the right to share their thoughts, there's a clear line between expression and targeted abuse. When people start hurling insults or calling others names, it creates a toxic environment. Who is responsible for monitoring and managing this kind of content? And what safeguards are in place to protect users from consistent harassment especially women?

I think a simple down vote system is better than aggressive monitoring and censoring with super mods.

But vote down doesn’t make sure only the negative comments get censored

Hiding behind an anonymous mask doesn't give anyone the right to hurl abuse or target others, especially when someone expresses discomfort or disgust over a post.

That's a question of ethics. If you try to overmoderate this, this app would become like reddit with ecochambers under posts and a few votes or downvotes deciding the worth of your comment.

I understand your concern but realise that it's not an app problem, it's an ethics problem. And that wouldn't be solved unless you say, let's remove anonymity off of the app.

It's deeply disappointing to admit, but this no longer feels like a safe space for me. @UnpaidIntern @Micheal_Scott. I’ve been subjected to verbal abuse based on gender simply because I chose to speak out against the bullying and mockery surrounding the Pahalgam incident. Standing up for what’s right shouldn't come at the cost of personal dignity and mental peace. And I have seen people targetting other’s too! By the time someone report things, the damage is already done.

Looks like @MichaelScott gave up on moderation or at least a downvote to hide button in favor of fake engagement metrics. It's sad what you have been subjected to.

Anyone would involve themselves in sensitive topics like those, when GV is supposed to be mainly for career and corporate related discussions...was bound to see faces of people(behind the mask of anonymity) which they weren't supposed to see.

People here aren't your family, nor your friend. They are simply just internet users who are behind the mask of anonymity.

As for 'safe spaces', again, geopolitics and conflicts so close to people's literal homes is not supposed to be taken over by "but according to my opinion🤓", like...no one gives a crap, it became personal for a lot of people and logic was thrown out of the window. Why was this discussed here in the first place? Go to reddit, Twitter, IG or whatever.

This might sound a little insensitive, but can someone explain to me how bullying works on GV? I mean people don't know you or anything about you apart from the company you work for other than that they can only abuse you for your opinion, that too is wrong but random people abusing your user name does that count as bullying 🤔🤔.

I get where you're coming from. It can seem less personal when it's "just a username" and not face-to-face. But bullying doesn't always require personal knowledge. On GV, if someone is consistently targeted, mocked, or verbally abused for their opinions, it can still feel very real and harmful, especially when it happens repeatedly or gets very personal. So even if it seems distant or anonymous, the impact can still be significant. I hope this answers your question.

Yeah makes sense, there should be a way to report such users, if someone is targeting you specifically on every post then yeah.

Isn't there a way to block someone so they can't see your post?

Dear snowflake, please report whatever messages you find offensive, and the GV team will decide if your reports warrant a deletion.

Your truly,
Bets. A little bit stronger snowflake.

@UnpaidIntern @Micheal_Scott @the_dark_knight Can we have some answers?

"you". The moment you discuss topics like religion, wars happening close to people's home and politics, is when you should expect these things to happen. The responsibility falls on you because you decided to do it on a totally anonymous platform which isn't made for such discussions in the first place. GV team allows the freedom to create such posts and for people to interact on those, but beyond it...they should be hands off.

ZippyTaco

However, if it's any bullying related under career posts, then you should just report them right away. But I saw folks complaining about people disagreeing and going a bit over the top when it comes to defending their opinion on Politics, war, etc etc. That's expected.

That guy's an ahole. You will always find such idiots everywhere. The only thing we should do is ignore him since even blocking may just create another ahole.

GV has gone to the dogs. This has become another garbage like Twitter. The other day someone calls out all South Indians as traitors in long lame ass post because of the Hindi issue. And then one more comment that calls Kannadigas (I'm not a Kannadiga BTW) at workplace as auto and cab drivers. One more guy calls me a Muslim for no reason in one of the Pahalgam incident posts. If this isn't meant to be a helpful community then we might as well be on Twitter. This platform is not even 10% as useful as Reddit TBH. Why to have one more useless app filling up space on our phones?

If you want to build just another cesspool like Twitter where IT cells call you names and post low IQ shit then your priorities are wrong. You are no different.
