Waste management is inherently an interesting space But household garbage collection can be extremely complicated

Have met with a team in this space; they've been trying for a few years. They collect dry waste from home, analyse it to generate data about household consumption (households in Indiranagar eat more corn flakes, for example), and then make money by selling data.

The model is tough because managing that much workforce to collect waste from each building is slightly complicated. Revenue may not exceed ops costs.

But do think about repurposing waste. Lot's of companies that made it big in that space globally.

Had met a guy, who had built the exact same startup in BLR. He told the reason it didn't work out was becauae people will never pay for something they consider trivial and useless like waste disposal. Why pay money for garbage collection, when you can through it at the end of street?

Incentivisation is important. If people were paid to do it or get some benefits/value, they might.

Just the feel good factor isn't enough. Most people won't care.

If you give incentive to others, how will you yourself warn money?

Best to sort out the waste disposal strategy from your side. What will the company do once it collects all the waste. N of course, incentivising the waste disposal process at home. Usually govt has facilities for waste management at dirt cheap rates. Competing with that might be a money bleeder.

What would this app do exactly? If you want to segregate household waste, it's a manual task. Do you plan to gamify it?

Indore government already doing this and making money out of it..

It would work only if you can pay the household to perform garbage segregation. Wet waste can be sold for manure firms and plastic for recycling. Don't think either can sustain itself so need Govt to subside the operation. Well, on subsidies Govt will never contract an efficient firm.

[Rant] We lack accountability in almost everything

I am fed up here as I don't see accountability anywhere. There was a Telugu Movie starring Mahesh Babu where he being CM says, in foreign, people are responsible and accountable and they made their lives beautiful. How amazing, right? ...
