Confused on my role

Hi all, I have been enrolled for a project where they interviewed me for python and Data engineering. Initially they gave python related tasks but slowly they started giving core DevOps related tasks and said that you are a software developer and you can manage working with DevOps. I can manage doing DevOps but it is really becoming difficult while handing issues in DevOps as it is not my area of expertise. What should I be doing? Should I ask for change in project or discuss with the team that I can only manage data engineering and python related tasks. I am really confused on my current role. If anyone can help then I will be happy.
