Competition made me better

I was always a below avg folks. Getting around 50-60% marks in exams . But fortunately my closest friend in the school was a topper. That somewhat pushed me to do hard-work.

Same thing happened in college. My college buddy turned out to be a topper. That again pushed me to worked hard. Graduated with good grades. We both went to join TCS. Was complacent for initial 2 years. My friend switched to Deloitte within 3 years and it again forced me go onto my toes and start working hard.

Now I am pretty stable , got decent hikes in these years.

Moral of the story - Surround yourself with decent folks , somehow they bring you the best from you

Competition is when One motivates oneself by looking at anyone and everyone who is better than self.

What you say is not competition. It's just envy.

Be it envy or competition, it always made me better ! Class 5 boy doesn’t understand much difference between both

Two types of envy: emulative envy and malicious envy.

Healthy competition makes humans stronger, but comparison makes humans weak. By the way, how to start a career as a Data Engineer?

MagicalPanda

Copied my replied from above. Depends on for what exactly we are competing. Something materialistic or artificial is useless. Something intrinsic which makes you an overall better person or your life better , is always good for competition. Not to show off but for your own sake, to introspect how far you came in the journey !!

@CandidBank I am more of a full stack backend developer. Primary skills be AI ML. Along the way I learned about Data Engineering as well. Start with SQL, Pyspark , Data Optimaization, Batch & Streaming Data, Kafka , Pub Sub Events & some cloud knowledge. I ask all my juniors to go for DE. Its syllabus definite unlike AI ML

I get overwhelmed by competitions I am not sure why maybe this is only me , I was never good at studies 😔, neither I after 5 years i am feeling like it isn't for me I started with python and all then I am feeling like moving into testing but then no future there with ai and all coming I get overwhelmed and anxiety attacks and Idk if anyone can relate me or help me but this is not condition also in here currently I am in bench with constant fear of loosing job , i am getting stardulded by smallest of notifications
Just putting it out there for the first time , I might be only one off case but I get scared by interviews and failing them even though I made 1 switch now in tcs after 5 years spending 1 more year its not going away any time soon 🤕🤒

Introspect and see what you like . In India , no matter which field you choose you will face competition. Some people are naturally inclined towards technical stuff where as some folks are great at people handling or finance. See where your strengths lie. That’s where you will do wonders. Cut the noise. You might be 26 or 27. You still have solid 25-30 years of career left. Talking about AI , I myself is from that background. AI will impact us , but definitely not at the level what companies are showing . AI automating everything and all bs !!

Same
I performed best when i had to fight, once i accepted mediocrity and fell off race and decided not to compete went downhill. Sometimes envy or motivation whatever one calls makes u go out of comfort zone,if one is average and accepts it then game is over

How many times deloitte gives hikes in a year. For hashedin I have heard it's better and give 2 hikes and 2 month extra salary as bonus. Can you give insight of deloitte?

Yeah, there is a famous saying about being in the company of people better than you. Of course we can’t have everyone around to be better than us, if at least a few of them are better, or on par with us, that keeps pushing us to do better. I am pretty sure many of us have faced similar scenarios.

You sound like pakistan trying to compete with India.
Instead of running behind your friends' succeses, find your own way. Become what you wanted to be, not somebody else's hazy mirror image

Don’t forget India is also trying to compete with China ! There’s no harm in competing.

Looks like you didn’t understand what I was trying to convey. Leave it ! Go through my below replies. You will understand

We as humans absorb a lot even without knowing it. One of the oldest strategies is to be friends with smart people and absorb some of the skills, they have better.
