Damage on company's laptop by employee is who's responsibility?

Irony but companies would say that it’s responsibility of employee. Even though laptop is provided for their convenience also so that in case of emergency, at any point of time, employee can work. I had faced same kind of issue recently where I need to pay good amount while doing F&F.
