US budget for Police is high, becuase they value the life of policemen. They take it seriously, so every cop is armed enough, trained enough to keep them safe. The department pays for all expenses -like fuel, travel, OT etc... Unlike India. there are rumors of cops reaching out to businessman for favours like fuel, food, etc.
