Codebase reality check

If your company's codebase got leaked to the public tomorrow I swear half of us wouldn't even be worried about the security risks. We'd just be deeply embarrassed that other engineers out there can see the absolute garbage holding the core services together. Like idk how these massive orgs even make money when the main transaction flow usually has a random comment from 2018 saying "do not touch this or the DB crashes". Every place I've worked at is just a giant house of cards built on top of some intern's unoptimized script from 6 years ago that nobody understands anymore. Ngl it's an absolute miracle the internet even functions on a daily basis bhai.
