CII Declares Supreme Court Polygamy Ruling Un-Islamic

• The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has ruled that the Supreme Court's decision on polygamy is not valid under Sharia law.
• The CII stated that it is un-Islamic to grant the first wife the right to annul the marriage if her husband marries again without her permission.
• The Supreme Court had upheld a wife's plea for dissolution of marriage based on her husband's violation of the 1961 Muslim Family Laws Ordinance.
• The CII reiterated that men do not need the permission of their existing wives for subsequent marriages according to Sharia principles.
• The CII also supported optional medical tests for thalassemia before marriage and allowed organ transplants without endangering the donor's life.
