Trending @Accenture; Changing primary skill poses any issues ?

I am a level 8 - Java backend developer here who is working in aws too ( have completed aws solution architect certification) . I have spring boot level 3 in my learning as my primary skill. Recently I had a convo with the Project manager ( not my people lead) and he suggested that I should change my primary skill to AWS. He suggested as it might help to get better pay during appraisals and hike. Does it work like that. Also are there any disadvantages doing so. I don't want to be assigned to devops related projects..
