CGI L2 interview

Hi folks I have given interview for CGI and the hiring manager has discussed the package and confirm me that HR will contact u for joining date.. .. but now HR informed me that I was rejected and when I told him that hiring manager has informed me this .. he was confused and said will contact me after 2 days. What is happening can anyone help me understand...
