Caste-based phrases even today are still common “muhavaras” thrown around without much thought and while she had heard them all her life, she did not truly understand their meaning until one day one such phrase slipped out of her mouth (towards herself). It was then that she realised what the words meant and how demeaning they actually were. She still feels ashamed for speaking out those words, and she promises to be more mindful going forward.
