Hi everyone,
I'm currently working as a Product/Project Manager at an Indian bank with 2.9 years of experience and a CTC of ~23 LPA (20 fixed). I hold an MSc from one of the older IITs and have been actively trying to transition into Data Science.
To strengthen my profile, I've built POC projects and positioned them as work-related during interviews. This has helped me reach final rounds and even secure offers from 1-2 companies, but they eventually fell through due to notice period constraints(90days non negotiable )or some adhoc reasons. Wherever I failed to clear mainly it was due to lack of "relevant" work experience/domain fit.
I'm targeting roles in Analytics, Classical ML, and non-GenAl Data Science positions as of now (I think GenAl is too advanced and requires a lot of core CS stuff). From what I've seen, the 3-4 YOE market seems saturated at around 25 LPA, unless you're targeting big tech or high-growth startups. Asking beyond that seems to significantly limit the number of potential opportunities.
I'm feeling stuck, my current role is mostly non-technical and I'm quite desperate to make a move soon. I've been working on advanced DS/ML projects referring to medium blogs and other platforms. I try to learn deployment techniques and ETL and Data Engineering techniques
How do I best navigate this situation? Any guidance would be really appreciated. Sometimes I feel I am juggling multiple things with no results... Also given the progress in Al ML fields it is getting difficult to catch up things...
In my current work I have no other issues (like bad manager, over work etc... the only issue is zero learning) so I am able to do other things in my remaining hours.
