Career Transition

Hi, I have around 3.8 years of experience as a SQL Developer, but I am currently unemployed and looking to transition into a full analytics-based role. I am actively upskilling with various tools to enter this field, but I am struggling to find good opportunities and am losing confidence and hope.

I am proficient in Excel, Power BI, and SQL. Can anyone advise me on whether these skills are sufficient or what additional topics I should focus on to prepare for interviews and secure the job I desire? Also, are there any key pointers I should check before attending an interview for this role?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

  1. Add Python (Pandas) to your stack—it’s non-negotiable for analytics roles today.
  2. Build 2-3 end-to-end projects (e.g., analyze sales data → SQL queries → Power BI dashboard → insights).
  3. Target Business Analyst/Data Analyst roles—your SQL dev experience is a huge plus for ETL/data modeling.
