Career Switch to Finance

I am working as a software developer and am thinking to make a career transition towards Finance sector - Is there any practical way to achieve the same? I am not getting a feel towards working for very long time as a software developer. I know MBA is one path but I have 6.5 years of experience as of now. Looking for guidance from folks who have transitioned to different careers.
